Before the 2007 landslide, Malakhitovyy Grot (malachite grotto) was one of the most famous and most beautiful pulsing springs in the Valley of Geysers. Located on the bank of Geyzernaya River, near the water and close to the tourist trail, it was covered with an eye-catching green geyserite shield. The spring was functioning continuously, its fountain reaching 2—3 meters high.
After the landslide Malakhitovyy Grot was submerged, its geyserite structure was half-flooded with the lake. Two years later gravel spit formed in this area.
Nowadays Malakhitovyy Grot is working again, but there's nothing left of its former beauty. The most beautiful lower part of its famous geyserite shield is currently completely covered with pebble sediments, carried over by the river.
