Kovarnyy (treacherous) is a pulsating spring, located next to a wooden path close to the Mudpots Platform. Normally, boiling water periodically shoots up to 1 meter high, and watching the spring is relatively safe for people standing close to it. Every now and again though, very strong splashes happen, which can scald an unsuspecting tourist. It happened on a number of occasions, so the spring was named appropriately.
Back in a day you could see several parallel scratches on its slope, resembling marks left by a clawed paw. Rumor has it, that an imprudent bear fell in it and has been boiled alive; and that scratches are the traces of its agony. But maybe it's just a myth.
